Frequently Asked Questions

Wax Melts
What are Wax Melts?

Wax melts are an affordable and longer lasting alternative to candles. They are sometimes referred to as wickless candles.

How do I use wax melts?

Firstly you need a wax burner.  You can find these available widely and relatively cheaply on the internet. Simply place a wax melt into the dish of your wax burner and carefully light a 4 hour tea light underneath. The wax will slowly melt and release the luxurious fragrance into your room.

Can I use an electric wax melter?

We prefer to use a tea light wax burner for best results. However, we have tested our wax melts in a 40Amp electric wax melter and get good results too. If you have a Scentsy wax melter you may find it doesn’t get hot enough to melt the wax or even get the wax melt pool hot enough to release the fragrance properly.

How long will each wax melt last?

It varies! Every wax burner performs slightly differently to the next and so will produce different results. Even tea lights can vary.

On average each wax melt will last up to 6 hours and sometimes longer than that. Simply re-melt the solidified wax until you can no longer detect the fragrance.

Can I use an oil burner with your wax melts?

There are a lot of burners available which unfortunately are sold as wax burners but instead they are oil burners. Oil burners are not ideal since the dish sits very close to the flame - less than 10cm. This means the fragrance will evaporate very quickly and won’t last very long. The wax melters we use in testing and at our home all have a minimum of 10 cm (some up to 14cm) and produce excellent results.

Can I use an 8 hour tea light instead of two 4 hour tea lights?

Please don’t use 8 hour tea lights! They get very hot and will evaporate the fragrance very quickly. Instead use one 4 hour tea light for 2-3 hours at a time and allow the wax to solidify between uses for best results.

How do I clean my wax melter?

There are a few methods you can choose. One option is to light a tea light and place it in your wax burner. Wait for approximately 45 seconds and then carefully push one side of the wax disc out of the dish. It should come out in one piece. Alternatively, allow the wax to fully melt and then place some absorbent tissue paper into the dish to soak up the wax.

How strong are wax melt scents?

Again, it varies! Each person’s nose and sense of smell is unique. Even one person’s nostrils have been found to separately detect different scents! A fragrance that is subtle to one person can be strong to another. You can reduce the strength of fragrance by using just half a wax melt or increase the strength by using 2 wax melts.
